Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Accurately determine a patient’s vision status using physical exam, objective testing, subjective testing, and ancillary testing.

  • Determine and diagnose a patient's ocular and systemic health status utilizing physical exam and ancillary testing when needed.

  • Prescribe medications, low vision rehabilitation, vision therapy, spectacle lenses, including evaluation and fitting of contact lenses.

  • Effectively transition patients to the optical in order to communicate information about the patient's prescription to the Optician or Eye Wear consultant.

  • Oversee referral and co-management for surgery when appropriate.

  • Counsel patients regarding surgical and non-surgical options that meet their visual needs related to their occupations, avocations, and lifestyle.

  • Write referral communications to doctors as needed.

  • Promote the practice and profession of optometry within the community.

  • Be available for after-hours on-call as assigned.

  • Maintain a strong understanding of the profession’s standards of care through thoughtful pursuit of continuing education.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

What we need from you:

  • Detail-oriented and organized.

  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to establish priorities, work independently, multi-task and proceed with objectives without supervision.

  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.

  • Basic bookkeeping skills.

  • Three years related medical experience preferred.

  • Three years customer service preferred.

  • Current license in the state of Minnesota
